Travel, Lodging, and Tips for Exploring Boston

Getting to Boston

The primary airport serving Boston is Logan International Airport (BOS), located just across the harbor from downtown. There are a few options for reaching your hotel from the airport:

  • MBTA Silver Line (SL1): The SL1 bus runs directly from all terminals to South Station and Downtown Crossing, with connections to the broader subway (the "T") network. It's free from the airport outbound and takes about 20–30 minutes to South Station.
  • MBTA Blue Line: Take the free Massport shuttle bus (Route 22 or 33) from your terminal to the Airport subway station, then ride the Blue Line into downtown.
  • Water Taxi: A scenic option: ferries run from Logan to the Seaport and Long Wharf in downtown Boston in about 10 minutes.
  • Taxi / Rideshare: Taxis and rideshare services (Uber, Lyft) are available outside baggage claim at all terminals. Expect a 15–25 minute ride to downtown depending on traffic, typically costing $30–45.

Amtrak serves Boston through South Station (the main hub) and Back Bay Station. FlixBus and Greyhound serve South Station Bus Terminal, directly connected to the train station.

While You're in Boston

The Longwood area sits at the intersection of several of Boston's most vibrant neighborhoods: Fenway, the Back Bay, and the South End.

Nearby

The Fenway Victory Gardens,  the only continuously operating WWII Victory Gardens in the US,  are a short walk away and a lovely place for a morning or evening stroll. Just adjacent, the James P. Kelleher Rose Garden in the Back Bay Fens is a beautiful hidden gem. Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox, is also just up the road.

For a bite to eat near the venue, The Mission Bar & Grill on Huntington Avenue is a well-loved neighborhood spot, and the Longwood Grille & Bar is a convenient option right in the medical area.

Exploring the City

The Museum of Fine Arts is just a 10-minute walk from the venue, with an encyclopedic collection spanning ancient Egypt to contemporary art. The nearby Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is a more intimate and serene experience: a Venetian-style palazzo housing a world-class private collection, with a stunning courtyard at its center.

The Back Bay, with its iconic brownstones, Newbury Street boutiques, and the Public Garden, is a 15-minute T ride or a pleasant walk. From there, Beacon Hill and the Freedom Trail are easily accessible for those who want to explore Boston's deep Revolutionary War history. And for a memorable evening, the South End offers some of Boston's best restaurants and a thriving arts scene, just a couple of T stops away.

You can also head over to Cambridge to explore Harvard College and historic Harvard Square on the Charles River.
